Petroleum Ministry discloses new outstanding N108bn debt to marketers

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources disclosed yesterday that a fresh N108 billion of fuel subsidy claims owed to oil marketers covering the last three months of 2015 is not contained in the 2015 supplementary budget before the National Assembly, Leadership reports.
The ministry’s permanent secretary, Mrs Jamila Suara made the disclosure during a public hearing organised by the Senate Committee on Appropriation to consider the request of President Muhammadu Buhari for a N465 billion 2015 supplementary budget.
Buhari had in the supplementary budget, requested for approval of N413billion for payment of subsidy from January to September 2015. However, by the new disclosure, oil marketers are now being owed N521 billion in subsidy claims.
The Senate Committee on Appropriation chaired by Sen. Danjuma Goje yesterday directed the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other relevant stakeholders to harmonize all budget claims to include payment for October to December 2015.
