Senator Abdul-Aziz Nyako
Senator Abdul-Aziz Murtala Nyako, Chairman Senate Committee on Special Duties on Monday, March 14, called on the federal government to pay adequate attention to Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in Nigeria.
While speaking with newsmen at the National Assembly, he said  it was important that Nigeria be extremely concerned about what happened at the IDP camps.
Nyako in the  interview, explained that he wanted the Refugees Commission and NEMA to cater to the IDPS.
He said although the North East Development Commision, which he is proposing would  deal with issues bothering on rehabilitating the north east.

He said that when terrorism started in Maiduguri, Borno State, most people were not bothered because it did not get to their territory but now the issue had escalated to other states.
Nyako said it would be foolhardy for Nigeria make the mistake Afganistan made years back which left the country as an incubator for terrorism.
“Nigeria must be extremely concerned about what is happening in the IDP camps because it has the capacity to affect our corporate existence.
“Let us not make the mistake that the world made with Afghanistan and it now became an incubator for terrorism.

“So with this type of situation, we cannot sit down as a people and as a nation to see what is going on there and assume it is an external affair.
“It is truly a Nigerian affair and Nigeria must fund it. They have no option in this matter than to fund it. It will always remain a problem unless Nigeria is able to address it.
Nyako added that this issue if seen as priority by the country will fund it. He also added that nations primarily work in unison for security reasons.
While responding to questions from a  media organisation on his confidence on the performance of this commissions when they are funded, Nyako said that it will clearly be a hub for information.
He said the if the commission is made efficient, far lesser funds would be required.
He said that it was the quality of leadership that would make the commission to provide for the IDP in camps.
Nyako further said that the public hearing of the bill would be scheduled once the funds were released
“We are just waiting for funds and we have been ready for about a month. I hope that sometime next week, we will get some funds and once we do that, we will have our public hearing,” he said.
Meanwhile, a report on the presidential intervention committee on the rehabilitation of the north east zone was read on the floor of the senate on Thursday, March 10.
The report read by Senator Nyako says the situation at the IDP Camps is deplorable.
